Architectural Furniture -furniture combining architectural functions

Toshihiko Suzuki

4. Process generating architectural furniture

A diagram shown in Fig.4 Categorization of interior elements based on 3 natures of architectural furniture categorizes the interior elements by 3 axes (space partition, function provision, and changeability) to represent the relation between each element and architectural furniture with a 3 dimensional cube.
In this figure, skeleton and architectural furniture are deployed oppositely, and processes to reach architectural furniture are indicated by arrows as the following 4 operations.

Fig.4 Categorization of interior elements based on 3 natures of architectural furniture

Operation A : A vector to partition the space from “Something providing a space with function and easy to move and change (small furniture, etc.)”

Operation B : A vector to provide a space with functions from “Something dividing the space and easy to move and change (movable partitions, joineries, etc.)”

Operation C : A vector to make easy to move and change from “Something dividing the space and providing the space with function (multi-functional walls, partition furniture, etc.)”

Operation D : A vector to partition the space and make easy to move and change from “Something to provide a space with function (equipment, big furniture beside walls, etc.)”
