The Grand Prix winner, Sugihara was awarded 10 million yen for the execution and the installation of her work to be realized in the exhibition. Two 1000-liter per-minute pumps spread the water out into the shape of a dome with 8 meters in diameter. The jets of water gushed out of the top creating a screen of water droplets. Participants inside the dome watched the images that were being projected on the inner side of the dome while they simultaneously experienced a fresh wind blowing from the floor.

From “abundant” to “limited” resource: Introducing the environmental viewpoints with regards to water through the Art. There is a worldwide shortage and pollution of “fresh water” and that we will be facing a lack of water in global sense can easily go unnoticed. Based on the report released by United Nation Environmental Plan (UNEP) and World Water Forum, Spiral had taken the approach to water in a form of an exhibition. The exhibition’s main attraction is the water dome. This dome is 2 meters in diameter and the dome section consists of a thin water film. In comparison to the rainfall-like 8-meter dome, the new 2-meter-in-diameter dome is a result of extensive research by Sugihara to create “the biggest water membrane.” Visitors can enter this dome and enjoy the wonderful sensation of being surrounded 360 degrees by water without being soaked.

Our clients company requested us to make a new booth for summer rock festival. The exhibition booth was, in the past, composed of tent and steel materials. The water dome, however, used water sanitarily filtered from rain remaining in a park for the purpose of a structure material in the air space. Water pool with the air filter structure can swell in thirty seconds and the stage with stainless pillar and FRP-resin can be set up in five hours. Dismantlement, on the other hand, can be accomplished simply by releasing the water and decomposing the structure. It is designed based on system movability and decomposability concepts because after two weeks, another rock festival was scheduled to set it up.
